Chris Cornell nominated for Golden Globe

Chris Cornell's 'The Keeper' has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

The song was featured in the soundtrack for Machine Gun Preacher, the Marc Forster-directed film starring Gerard Butler. It tells the story of unconventional missionary Sam Childers and his efforts to save the children of South Sudan.

The other nominees in the Best Original Song category are:

Chris Cornell - The Keeper (Machine Gun Preacher)
Glenn Close & Sinead O'Connor- Lay Your Head Down (Albert Nobbs)
Madonna - Masterpiece (W.E)
Elton John and Lady Gaga- Hello Hello (Gnomeo & Juliet)
Mary J. Blige- The Living Proof (The Help)

You can listen to extracts from them all via Spin or read Chris's reaction to the good news in the Hollywood Reporter:

"Chris Cornell, Machine Gun Preacher, "The Keeper" -- best original song, motion picture: "I was dead asleep after staying up with my family, the four of us with two beds pushed together watching Hook. It’s a huge honor for me and also an opportunity for a song to have a little more life and to get a message across. I tried really hard to write a song about the Sudanese orphan children without having lived those lives. “

The Golden Globes, voted upon by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are one of the most widely watched awards ceremonies during the lead-up to the Oscars in February. The event will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on January 15, 2012, by NBC.
